The DRC's Educational Climate - DREEM
The DREEM questionnaire measures educational climate. Our GP Registrars have completed it anonymously on the last day of each term since July 2001. DREEM was derived from a Delphi of MMEd participants, followed by further iterations involving international experts. It was then applied and some statistical number crunching was done. The factorisation produced the 5 key themes (teaching qualities, characteristics of teachers etc etc). It was widely tested in several international contexts, forming the basis for a subsequent doctorate. It was designed and validated for use with medical students but where necessary we have adapted the questions to be suitable for GP Registrars. The Swindon/Bath Course Organisers use the results to help them review the term and work out how to adapt the next term's organisation and teaching.
NotesWe have compared this term’s scores with the first time we ran the questionnaire, July 2001. In July 2001 17 GPRs completed forms, compared with 21 July 2006. July 2005's scores were lower than hoped, due to the disruption from one of our Course Organisers leaving half-way through the term. This term's educational climate appears to be back to its usual high level.
