DCH: "Having just done a load of GPVTS SHO appraisals, it has become apparent that the current VTS trainees are being told that the changes to the DCH exam due to take place next year will mean that it will no longer be relevant for primary care doctors as a qualification as it is due to be amalgamated with part one MRCPCH. This is NOT the case! "I would be most grateful if you could therefore cascade the following information to your GP Trainers: "As from the 21st January 2004, Part One MRCPCH will be divided into 2 MCQ exams: "Paper One A (Basic Child Health) will focus on areas of child health likely to be seen in 6-12 months of hospital, community or primary care paediatrics and is therefore aimed at any doctor working with children, not just "career paediatricians". "Paper One B (Extended Paediatrics) will focus more on basic sciences and will be equivalent to the current Part One MRCP MCQ. "DCH candidates are only expected to take Paper One A and then do a separate
clinical exam. "I hope that this clarifies the situation for everyone - it would be a shame if trainees were put off attempting the exam. "Further information is available on the College website www.rcpch.ac.uk/exams."
